The ATO Clearing House Closes 30 June 2026 — What To Do Now

The Small Business Superannuation Clearing House (SBSCH) closes at 11:59pm AEST on 30 June 2026. It already stopped taking new registrants from 1 October 2025. If you use it to pay super, here's exactly what to do — and download your records — before it shuts and payday super starts.

By Sam Whitford ·

If you pay super through the Small Business Superannuation Clearing House (SBSCH), your hard deadline is actually a day earlier than payday super itself. The SBSCH closes at 11:59pm AEST on 30 June 2026 — and payday super starts the next morning. This page is the practical "what to do now" list so you migrate cleanly, save your records, and don't miss your first payday super deadlines.

General information only — not financial, tax, superannuation, or legal advice. Confirm your migration with the ATO (ato.gov.au) or a registered tax or BAS agent before acting.

The timeline in three dates

  • 1 October 2025 — the SBSCH closed to new registrants. If you weren't already using it, you can't start.
  • 11:59pm AEST 30 June 2026 — the last moment existing users can use it.
  • 1 July 2026 — from this date the SBSCH can no longer make payments or download records, and payday super starts.

What to do now — the migration checklist

1. Confirm whether you actually use the SBSCH

If your super already goes out through your payroll/accounting software's super feature, you may not be on the SBSCH at all — check before you do anything else.

2. Choose your replacement path

You have three main options:

  • Super functions in your payroll/accounting software — e.g. Xero or MYOB, QuickBooks or Reckon. Often the simplest if you already run payroll there.
  • A commercial clearing house — a paid service that submits to funds.
  • A super-fund option — some funds offer an employer clearing-house facility.

3. Check the replacement's turnaround in business days

This is the step that matters most for 1 July 2026. Because super must be received by the fund within 7 business days of payday, you need to know — in writing — how many business days your new path takes end to end. A replacement that's slower than the SBSCH could put you at risk even though it's "newer." See the 7-business-day rule.

4. Download and save your SBSCH records

Once it closes you cannot retrieve them. Before 30 June 2026, export and store:

  • payment history,
  • employee and fund details you entered,
  • any reports you'll need for reconciliation or audit.

5. Set up and test the new path in June

Don't make 1 July your first real run. During June 2026, process a dummy super batch through the replacement path and confirm the fund's received date is comfortably inside 7 business days. This is point 12 of the readiness check.

6. Update your process and owner

Per-payday super is a recurring task, not a quarterly one. Confirm who runs it, who checks the money was received, and who handles a bounced payment.

How this fits the bigger change

Migrating off the SBSCH is one piece of getting ready for payday super. The other pieces — confirming your software is payday-super-ready, mapping which pay items are now Qualifying Earnings, and planning the cashflow timing shift — are all in the complete employer guide. • Payday Super policy template (.docx) — pay-on-payday, the 7-business-day received standard, QE basis, choice-of-fund, a process owner. Fill-in-the-blanks.
  • Payroll-process SOP (.docx) — the per-payday runbook: calculate 12% of QE, submit early, confirm received within 7 business days, STP report, reconcile, handle exceptions. With a RACI line.
  • Employee comms templates (.docx) — staff announcement, "confirm your fund details" request, choice/stapled-fund notice, and a staff FAQ. Copy, paste, send.
  • Cashflow plan template (.xlsx) — super outflow per pay run vs the old quarterly lump, a buffer/runway calculator, and a 12-week timing view. Pre-built formulas.
  • Bonus: 7-business-day deadline calculator (.xlsx) — enter a payday, get the "must be received by" date. The most-shared artifact.

Frequently asked questions

When does the Small Business Superannuation Clearing House close?
The SBSCH closes at 11:59pm AEST on 30 June 2026 for existing users. It already closed to new registrants from 1 October 2025. From 1 July 2026 it can no longer make payments or download records, so you must migrate — and save any records you need — before then.
What do I use instead of the SBSCH?
You migrate to an alternative super-payment path: the super functions built into your payroll or accounting software, a commercial clearing house, or a super-fund option. Whatever you choose, confirm its turnaround in business days, because from 1 July 2026 super must be received by the fund within 7 business days of payday.
Why is the SBSCH closing date earlier than payday super?
Payday super starts 1 July 2026, and the SBSCH closes the day before, on 30 June 2026. The practical effect is that if you use the SBSCH, your real deadline to have a replacement path live and tested is the end of June 2026 — you can't wait until 1 July.
Can I download my SBSCH records after it closes?
No. From 1 July 2026 the SBSCH can no longer make payments or download records. Download and save anything you need — payment history, employee/fund details, reports — before 11:59pm AEST on 30 June 2026.
What happens if I don't migrate in time?
If you have no working super-payment path on 1 July 2026, you risk missing the 7-business-day received-by deadline on your first pay runs, which can trigger the new Super Guarantee Charge. The fix is simple but time-bound: set up and test your replacement path during June 2026.
